I have a premises liability case where my client did not see a step down on an outdoor deck, fell and fractured her collar bone, which required surgery to repair. There are several challenges here. First, we have a liability problem, given that there really are no a lot of deck building codes. The safety small print states that if you have only one step down the you should place the wood of the deck in a different direction so people can actually perceive the step there. I am not convinced that gets me over the liability hurdle. In addition, the small cafe owners have put in writing to me that they had no insurance to cover the loss and, after doing an asset check, showed that the individual owners have no attachable assets. Time to say goodbye?

November 12th, 2009Making money by giving it away?
November 12th, 2009I gave a fun and informative presentation this morning for some of the Kent, WA Chamber of Commerce members. The title was: Making Money by Marketing your Message: Developing your Face to Face Commercial
The folks in the auduence were blown away by how fast I could come up with and deliver persuasive messages AND how the messages hit home for the people that volunteered. Some of the participants flew out of the room after the speech – I am certain to go make something happen with the message I created for them.
I left the room thinking to myself…how am I going to make money off of my own message from today? While I did not give away the whole farm, I did feel like I gave some valuable messages away for free. I demonistrated to them clearly that I can do it and do it very well, even off the top of my head. If I could shoot those marketing messages from my hip – imagine having a couple of hours with me!
